International Dental Exhibition Africa (IDEA) is targeted mainly at importers, distributors and agents in the dental industry, who will have the opportunity to meet the exhibiting companies looking to expand their business into the African market. IDEA will be held at Centre International du Commerce Extérieur du Sénégal in Dakar from 8 to 10 November 2014.

JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia: Italian dental laser manufacturer LAMBDA has announced that it is aiming to strengthen its position in the Middle East. At the beginning of the year, the company’s sales manager met with Saudi sales representatives to instruct them in the use of doctor smile lasers, a line of products made by LAMBDA.

DUBAI, UAE: Today, the 18th International Dental Conference and Arab Dental Exhibition (AEEDC) was officially inaugurated by Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al-Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and President of the Dubai Health Authority. DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania: As reported by Daily News, a Tanzanian online newspaper, the East Africa Dental Amalgam Phase-down Project has been successfully implemented in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. Among other objectives, the project will investigate supply and trade patterns, and encourage switching to alternatives to dental amalgam in the three countries.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates: A new oral health care study, commissioned by international gum manufacturer Wrigley, has found that the majority of people in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have poor oral hygiene habits. Although health authorities advise regular dental visits to prevent oral disease, only one in five people in the country appear to be adhering to this recommendation.

KIJABE, Kenya: Surgeons from Africa have removed most of the maxilla and mandible of a young man who was severely disfigured by two massive tumours in his jaws. The maxillary tumour obstructed his nostrils completely, while the mandibular one prevented him from ingesting anything other than fluid.

LAGOS, Nigeria: Last week, the Lagos State Government revealed that it is planning to congregate about 300,000 students from different local schools in order to beat the Guinness World Record for the most people brushing their teeth simultaneously.
